District 6 Newsletter 11/27/24
Dear ,
I hope you are finding time to rest and celebrate this Thanksgiving week. The election results from earlier this month are not news to anyone, but I want to quickly share some more detailed numbers and, in a week of grateful reflection, some thoughts for the future.
First, locally, the Transportation Improvement Plan won big, with 66% of the vote citywide. It won in every single council district. But it won the biggest of all in District 6, taking over 80% of the vote here to win our district by a whopping 63-point margin! I am flat-out overjoyed by this number. District 6 leading the way! I greatly enjoyed getting out and knocking doors around the district in support of this plan, and talking over the phone with so many of you who reached out with questions. I am excited to get to work helping implement the results.
I have also been getting a lot of calls lately from folks who are upset, bewildered, and worried about the result of the national presidential election. These phone calls and meetings for coffee with so many of you have been, perhaps surprisingly, a fortifying experience for me, and I hope for you, too. There is so much heart in this district just as I know there is so much goodness in our country, and I believe we will, through a treacherous time, find a path to brighter days. I am grateful to everyone who has reached out. Please keep ‘em coming. But fundamentally now, let me say, as I always have: I am here to support the dignity of everyone who lives here, to stand strong for our public schools against state plans to defund and dismantle them, and to help our city do everything we lawfully can to defend the rights of the people of Nashville.
The Saturday morning after the election, I took my son to Bongo to play chess. When we walked in, it was more crowded even than it would be on an ordinary Saturday—packed with families and friends, playing games over coffee, being together in the warmth, enacting community. It was a clear and beautiful moment. As we walked through the tables, greeting and consoling friends and neighbors, I thought to myself, I love this community. It is an honor to fight for it. I am thankful, this Thanksgiving and every day, for the good fortune to serve the people of District 6.
There are challenges ahead, but I know we will overcome them, together. Please lean on me and let me know when I can help. Clay
