District 6 Newsletter 4/16/24

Dear ,

I hope everyone’s been getting outside in this gorgeous weather. As Spring comes to life around us, the happenings in Metro are not slowing down! Some updates:

Saving the Airpark

To briefly follow up on the previous newsletter: As many of you have seen, there is no longer a parking lot inside the Airpark. But I want to confirm for everyone that this will be the case permanently: we have found a different place for Fire Dept. staff to park, and there will be no cars or parking allowed inside the Airpark.

When I raised the issue, right away, I found that the Parks and Fire Departments quickly understood the community need here, and that they were eager to work together for a solution. We found a good one pretty quickly. My great thanks to them for that!

Enjoy the Airpark, and see you there!

Town Hall Meeting with Rep. Aftyn Behn

On Saturday, April 20, from 12:30-2pm, at the East Branch Library, House District 51 Representative Aftyn Behn and I will be hosting a joint town hall. Please come by, bring state- or city-related questions, ideas, or whatever else is on your mind!

And, Saturday is also Record Store Day—so don’t forget to drop by some of our great District 6 record stores like Vinyl Tap, The Groove (or even Grimey’s, although it is just across the district border :)

The Nashville Marathon

The Following Saturday, the 27th, is the Nashville Marathon. As you know, some of our East Side streets are involved, so please plan ahead for street closures that day. Info is available here.

Parking on Greenwood

One issue that many folks have reached out to me about is the state of Greenwood Ave, with parking on both sides, near its intersection with Porter Road. NDOT has studied the street there, and is now recommending changing that stretch of Greenwood to one-side-only parking (by removing parking on the North side of Greenwood between Scott and Porter). I want everyone to be heard on this, so I will be holding a community meeting to discuss NDOT’s proposal.

The meeting is scheduled for 5/15, at 6pm, at Tabla Rasa Toys (1200 Porter Road, at the corner of Greenwood).

If you can’t make the meeting, you can still equally let me know your views by emailing or calling me. Thanks to all, and see you there.

Transit!

This Friday, Mayor O’Connell is going to unveil his much-anticipated plan for Nashville’s transit system. I have believed for a long time that we must tackle transit, and that we need a dedicated funding source to do it. The details of the plan will be important here, but the drafts I’ve seen have me hopeful.

After the plan is announced, the Council will decide whether to put it on the ballot in November. This is a huge deal! So please keep your eyes out for it and let me know what you think!

Hope to see you soon. Yours in service, Clay
