These hot summer days take me back to the Nashville summers when I was a kid. I hope everyone’s had a chance to unwind a little and enjoy it. Please see below for some District 6 updates, and stay hydrated out there!

Data Center Legislation

High on the Council’s agenda for this summer has been keeping data centers out of our neighborhoods, away from our educational and recreational areas, and tightly regulated! I’m proud to be an original cosponsor of the legislation to do that and want to thank everyone who has reached out to me with thoughts, suggestions, and creative ideas. Other priorities for me have been finding a way to be more rigorous about requiring clean and renewable energy, and beefing up our sound limitation and monitoring requirements. I have brought amendments for those goals, and they were unanimously recommended in important votes by the Planning and Zoning Committee earlier this evening, and I will be working hard to get them finally enacted along with the whole bill on the floor at the council meeting tomorrow night. You can see all the filed amendments here (mine are numbers 11, 12, and 13). When we get this passed tomorrow it’s going to be a great win for Nashvillians! We will have the kind of strong local ordinance that will be an example to other cities, towns, and communities around the country fighting this fight.

Shelby Community Center Gym is Back Open!

As you know, structural damage from the ice storm required the closure of the Shelby gym for critical repairs. Now that it is fully back open and looking fantastic, I sincerely want to thank the Parks Department and the Mayor’s Office for their collaboration with me and for their work to prioritize getting this back open!

VOTE!

Voting is open now—general elections for many of our County Officers and special elections, and primaries for State and Federal Offices. Early voting is open through August 1. See locations and hours here or pasted below. The South Inglewood Community Center and the Metro Office Building (the old Howard School Building) are the closest to us, but you can vote early at any location.

Election Day is August 6 (which is also my 10th anniversary—happy anniversary Ali!) What a great reason for me to vote early! But seriously, voting early is always a great idea, and these are extremely important, so please make a plan, and Vote!
