District 6 Newsletter 7/12/24
Dear ,
I hope everyone is well and staying hydrated! Please see below for District 6 and general Nashville updates, and please let your friends and neighbors know they can sign up for these newsletters at claycapp.com.
East Bank, continued
Many thanks to those who came out to the meeting that I co-hosted earlier this week with D5 CM Parker and D19 CM Kupin, or who reached out to me with thoughts or ideas. We had a great discussion about CM Kupin’s proposed re-zoning of the initial development area of the East Bank. There will also be a public hearing before the full Council on that proposal, which I expect to happen at the 8/6 meeting (please stay tuned to my social media, in case that date changes). Council meetings are at 6:30pm in the Council Chamber at 1 Public Square.
But there is also now another important pending proposal concerning the East Bank, which is an administration proposal to create an East Bank Development Authority to oversee such a large-scale and long-term project. Check out the proposed legislation here. The Council’s East Bank Committee is getting the band back together for a hearing on this idea on Monday, July 15th, at 3pm in the Council Chamber. Please feel free to attend or watch online, and please let me know what you think!
The Rainbow Crosswalk
As you know, the community came out in large numbers to help NDOT paint a rainbow crosswalk at 14th and Woodland Streets a couple of weeks ago, and as you also know, that crosswalk was defaced a few days later. As the Council Member for this area, I have been so proud of our district, and the outpouring of support I’ve heard for this crosswalk. Nashville stands with the LGBTQ community, and we are proud that this beacon of equality is in District 6.
As I said to Channel 4, when asked who defaced it and how we were going to respond: “We’ve got more love than they do, and we’ve got more paint than they do.”
So, we are re-painting, tomorrow (Saturday the 13th) at 9am, and the community is again invited to help! Let’s get a big crowd out to show our support! Thank you all for helping build a Nashville for everyone.
Cayce Community Ice Cream Sandwich Social
It’s time again for my annual Cayce Homes Community Ice Cream Sandwich Social! I love this event, and everyone is welcome. We’ll be at the basketball court on Sylvan Street starting at 2:00pm on Saturday, July 20th. Come on by and bring your thoughts and questions!
Two other upcoming hearings/meetings
Earlier this summer we held a community meeting about a proposed beer permit for Butterlamp restaurant (1101 Chapel Avenue, Suite 103). It was a good discussion and I appreciate everyone who came out for it, or reached out to me separately. The next step is a public hearing on the permit before the full Council at our August 6th meeting (6:30pm in the Council Chamber at 1 Public Square).
There have been long-standing issues with golf balls from the Shelby Golf course’s 10th hole veering off the course and toward the houses on Oakhill Drive. The Parks department is coming out to the district for a meeting about this problem. It will be July 24th at 5pm, but please stay tuned to my social media for the location once we get that settled.
As always, please reach out to me directly at [email protected] or 615-864-0008. You can also use Hub Nashville for an array of city services and other Metro requests.
Hope to see you soon. Yours in service, Clay
