District 6 Newsletter 9/3/24
Dear ,
I hope everyone had a good Labor Day weekend, honoring the labor movement and recognizing the history and contributions of working people in our country.
Please see some quick District 6 updates below:
A Legislative Win for Affordable Housing in our District
Some great news: A resourceful housing team now has the green light to build 289 units of affordable housing (for households with incomes ranging from 0% to 80% of the Area Median Income) near the corner of 4th and Shelby! Crucial to making the project work is a Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreement that was approved by the Council at our last meeting. I am proud to have sponsored this legislation and proud to support this much-needed affordable housing in District 6!
Neighborhood Traffic Calming Application Period Is Now Open
The application period for the Neighborhood Street Traffic Calming Program is now open, through September 16th. If you would like your residential street to be reviewed by the city for potential traffic calming, you can learn the details of the program and apply here. The application is not difficult, and only requires either the sign-off of a neighborhood organization or the signatures of four neighbors. I will be happy to help anyone who needs help with the application or the process!
If your street has already been applied for, it remains on the list and you don't need to apply again. You can check if your street has already been applied for here.
After the application, the next step is getting the projects funded. I am a big supporter of this funding, and will continue to work for it in future budgets. But the biggest opportunity to fund safer streets is the transit referendum in November: that includes funding for a lot of sidewalks and street safety improvements!
Committee Assignments Update
Vice Mayor Henderson has made some changes to the makeup of the Council’s committees. I will be continuing to serve on Planning & Zoning as well as on Arts, Parks, and Libraries, and, in a top priority for me and for District 6, I will also be continuing as a member of the East Bank Committee.
The Vice Mayor has also appointed me to serve as chair of the Charter Revision committee. I am grateful for this opportunity and excited to get to work! If you have any ideas sitting in a drawer somewhere about how to improve our Metro Charter, dust off that notebook and let’s talk!
As always, please reach out to me directly at [email protected] or 615-864-0008. You can also use Hub Nashville for an array of city services and other Metro requests.
Hope to see you soon. Yours in service, Clay
